Animals and staff were evacuated after the alleged burning to tear the retail park in Northamptshire.

Large fires occurred during the main shopping time at ST James Retail Park in Northampton yesterday, forcing people and animals from pets at home and Dunelm to take shelter.

No injury was reported after a safe evacuation, but some shops were damaged by fire while others suffered smoke damage.

Records from the scene showed a large fire that rose from the shops, which looked miles.

Three people have now been arrested for being suspected of burning.

They remained in police custody after the fire, which were believed to be detectives ‘began intentionally.’

Head of Detective Inspector Andrew Tuff said: ‘At present, we believe this fire has begun deliberately and throughout the day, has made a number of quick questions that have caused these three arrests.

‘However, I now want to ask the public for any information that can help our investigation. If you are in, or close, Dunelm shop this afternoon and see something suspicious, please contact us.

“I am very interested in talking to a man suspected of seeing people burn Dunelm toilet some time before the incident was reported.

‘This incident not only causes significant damage and disruption but also has a very serious effect on the welfare of the local community who work in Dunelm and the surrounding shops. Therefore, if anyone knows anything, I will urge you to move forward. ‘

Emergency services were warned around 3 pm and they lived at the scene until this morning to extinguish the fire.

Some roads around the retail park in Northampton will remain closed until 5 am tomorrow, when the business will be opened as usual, the police said.
