After paying thousands for a three -day luxury cruise from London to the Lake District, passengers on the Britannic Belmond explorer got a little surprise.
Instead of sitting back to watch the British rural rural when they sipped cocktails made with experts and slipped Michelin Star food, where the ‘most expensive’ sleeping train in England stopped.
Only a few hours after starting, the trip (which cost £ 11,000 for two people) ended suddenly at Fenny Stratford at Milton Keynes … Not really a glamorous holiday guest will spend months to imagine.
This is the third time since July that the trip on the train has been canceled, and it follows complaints about the supply of water to the room and the quality of food on several successful trips.
The train is now reported to have been expelled from the service when the investigation occurs and all situations have been labeled ‘strange’ by those who follow the online story.
Many are left interested in all the mystery and of course it is difficult not to ask questions what is happening, especially considering that the Belmond train has long has a reputation for very high standards.
This is everything you need to know …
What is Britannic explorer?

Currently Belmond offers three and six nights travel from London at Belmond Explorer to destinations such as Wales, Cornwall and Lake District, with prices starting at £ 11,600 for Twin Suite for two (£ 5,800 per person) and an increase of £ 28,200 for the Grand Suite for two, with Private Butler.
These prices include daily food on the train and the choice of drinks (including alcoholic drinks). There are also entertainment on ships and outdoor experiences, including sightseeing visits.
What happened to the train?
The Britannic Explorer was first announced in 2022, seeing the train interior given in November 2024.
Since then, he has experienced several problems, with his first journey in early July 2025 was canceled because of ‘maintenance problems’ and the journey rescheduled at the end of July was also canceled.
Bex finally made its first voyage at the end of August, with a trip from London to Cornwall and everything seemed to be going well.
However, the second journey, who traveled from London to Wales in early September was welcomed with criticism, with a travel writer for telegraph who claimed there was a problem of water supply and complaints about food that did not meet expectations.
Simon Rogan’s chef since then apologized for the food, claiming they were ‘not fully prepared’ and ‘the kitchen did not work well’, but he swear they will ‘turn this up’ on the next trip.
But it seems that things are not yet above, after the latest trip to the Lake District on September 26 was canceled. The train made him as far as Fenny Stratford near Milton Keynes, before being stopped because of ‘new problems’ and the trip must be completely abandoned.
A spokesman for Belmond has confirmed that the train must be removed from the service for a while as a further investigation.
‘Because of the new problems that are isolated related to the mechanism of the door on the Britannik explorer on Friday night, the rest of the trip was canceled and all passengers were moved to the London Hotel. Investigation of the door mechanism will be carried out by the independent body, ‘they told the telegraph.
“Trains currently do not have services while our team works with urgency and maintenance to solve problems and allows back on time to the service.”
Everyone on the train at that time was offered a full refund and a free future trip on the British explorer. Belmond also said they included the related ‘incurred costs as a result of cancellation’.
Metro has contacted Belmond for further comments.
