Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester United’s decision to sign Senne Lammens and believes the goalkeeper has been ‘outstanding’ since joining Old Trafford.
United were looking for a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window but after failing to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, the club opted to bring in Lammens in an £18 million deal from Royal Antwerp.
Lammens made just 52 appearances in the Belgian Pro League before moving to the Premier League and United faced questions over whether the 23-year-old had enough experience to immediately become Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper.
However, Lammens has looked solid in his first five appearances for United so far and Ferguson has also been impressed with the club’s summer signing.
When asked if he was happy with United’s recent form, Ferguson told RTV’s Raceday: ‘Yeah, those are the signs… the manager has had some good signs.

“The goalkeeper in particular has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looked really good.
“Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new signings from Wolves and Brentford, have added to that. I wish the manager a bit of success because at United you have to be successful. The signs are getting better.
“I think winning in a row is something a team like United always hoped for. But after going through a cycle where improvements had to be made by waiting and being patient, they are now enjoying it.”
Speaking earlier this month, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, revealed that the club’s former goalkeeping coach, Tony Coton, who now works as a scout, played a key role in bringing Lammens to Old Trafford.
‘Tony Coton put Senne on my radar 12 months ago, and he’s been relentless about it,’ says Wilcox.
“This guy is going to be a great signing for us, and he’s started well, but he’s got to keep it going. He’s very reflective, and very professional with his approach.
“We are always looking for a goalkeeper who has great potential. Senne was available and we decided to move, but it was not a knee-jerk reaction.”
