Manchester United are considering joining the race to sign Marc Guehi before his immediate exit from Crystal Palace.
Eagles boss Oliver Glasner confirmed last month that Guehi, 25, would not sign a new contract with the club.
Palace hope to convince Guehi to sign a contract extension but the England star ‘want something different’, according to Glasner.
His transfer decision means Crystal Palace must now decide whether to sell Guehi in January or allow him to leave on a free transfer next summer.
Guehi was one of Glasner’s most important players at Selhurst Park, making almost 200 appearances for the Eagles and captaining the team in recent years.

Under Guehi’s leadership, Crystal Palace won the FA Cup last season – the first major trophy in the club’s history – and qualified for Europe.
As well as starring for Palace, Guehi is also a key player for England and is expected to start for Thomas Tuchel at next summer’s World Cup.
Premier League champions Liverpool came close to signing Guehi last summer and agreed a £35m deal with Crystal Palace.
Guehi had even completed a medical with the Reds only for Palace to pull out of the deal on transfer deadline day after failing to sign a replacement.
Given Palace could cash in on Guehi in January, Liverpool are expected to face competition from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are also considering entering the race to sign Guehi and intend to watch the situation this winter ‘with great interest’.
Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim is open to signing a new centre-back as another England international, Harry Maguire, is expected to leave the club next summer.
Maguire has been a reliable performer for the Red Devils over the past 12 months but talks over a new deal have made only ‘limited progress’.
The former Manchester United captain will be free to sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs in December and has attracted interest from a number of European clubs.
Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw have enjoyed impressive form in the United squad but Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven have struggled with injury problems.
Manchester United do not expect any ‘significant activity’ in January but will take action if the right deal is in place.
Whether Guehi would be open to a move to Old Trafford remains to be seen, especially as United are currently unable to offer any European football targets.
Faltering Premier League champions Liverpool remain interested in signing Guehi as Ibrahima Konate has started the season poorly and looks set to leave Anfield at the end of his contract.
But former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson believes Liverpool have ‘missed their chances’ of signing Guehi and predicts the Palace centre-back will move to another club.
“They’ve blown their chances of landing him. One million per cent,” the former Scotland star told Sportscasting.
“I mean, I want to be a dud at Liverpool when they don’t get the Guehi deal done. They should just pay the money.
“When I compare Liverpool to Arsenal, I see two right guys and two guys who won’t be intimidated in Calafiori and Timber, along with Saliba and Gabriel. So you’ve got four centre-backs there.
“If Mark Guehi was at Liverpool now, he would play left-back and you would have Konate, Van Dijk, Bradley and Guehi, and you would think as a villain, it’s quite versatile.
“Liverpool should pay Palace whatever they want. I think that’s a bad move. They’re so focused on signing Isak. I understand that, because you can’t turn him down, but Guehi should be another priority.
“This January must be a marker for Guehi if he wants to finish in the top four.
“They need to try and make every effort to land him in January because in the summer, I think he will have a lot of options to choose from, and it could become more attractive for him and his family.”
