Penalty heartbreak for Bracknell Town and Slough Town in the FA Trophy

Berkshire’s FA Cup campaign as a county has come to an end after all three teams in the Second Round were knocked out on Saturday.

Bracknell Town and Slough Town were both knocked out on penalties while Maidenhead United were beaten 2-0 in normal time in Leamington.

Bracknell went ahead in Enterprise National League South Bath City in the 61st minute when Seb Bowerman converted a penalty on the rebound after Shae Hutchinson was brought down in the box.

Underdogs entered the match, Bracknell’s lead lasted until the first minute of stoppage time when the home team equalised.

With the match going straight to penalties, the Robins scored their first two goals before Bath took the lead – the National League South side scored all five penalties.

Post-match, manager Carl Davies said: “Credit to everyone involved, not just the players who played but also the preparations made this week, especially Shaun. It was sickening to lose on penalties but I’m not too worried about the result, more so the performance and I couldn’t ask for more from them all. They were outstanding against a good Step 2 side who are probably on a false note in the league at the moment.”

Slough Town were also knocked out on penalties, Glocuester taking the lead in the 39th minute before substitute Ansu Janneh equalized in the 59th after Kiki Oshilaja headed in from a corner.

The Rebels pressed for a winner but eventually the final whistle blew and Gloucester emerged 4-3 winners.

• Leamington 2-0 Virginity United
• Mandi City 1-1 Bracknell City (Bath won 5-3 on penalties)

The FA has confirmed the FA Cup Third Round Proper draw will be broadcast live on talkSPORT2 radio on Monday 17 November. It will take place at around 3.15pm and is split into northern and southern sections, involving a total of 64 clubs and 32 draws.
