Passengers sprint across airport runway after missing flight | News World

There’s playing check-in chicken and then running across the active runway to try to board your plane with the engines running.

Two men shocked onlookers by trying to board their plane moments before take-off.

Desperate tourists were seen at Cologne Bonn airport in Germany running across an active runway on Friday, towards a Wizz Air plane bound for Bucharest.

Footage shows them approaching the Airbus A321 jet – which, incredibly, was completely uncontrolled – after the plane had left its gate and its engines were already running.

Eventually, an airport staff member came out and intervened, but the men reached the front of the plane and started moving their hands around the cockpit, apparently trying to get the pilot to stop.

The two men, aged 28 and 47, missed their flight to Bucharest, Romania, on Friday.

An airport spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that on Friday evening two passengers gained unauthorized access to the apron via the emergency exit after passing through security.’

Officials said the flight crew told them to turn back. Finally, after being detained by airport staff, they were handed over to German police.

Oliver Hunewinckell, a spokesman for the Federal Police, said: ‘Criminal proceedings for trespassing have been initiated against the individuals.

‘Violations of the Air Safety Act remain under investigation.’

The plane was briefly delayed, but only took off 17 minutes behind schedule and ultimately landed in Bucharest early after a delay during the flight.

Reports said there were delays at the airport’s security gates earlier in the day due to construction work, leading to longer queues than usual.
