Nintendo still refused to send Devkits 2 switches to many developers – even the famous ones – and no one knew why.
Third -party output at Nintendo Switch 2 has been … strange so far. With a console like, if it is not stronger than Playstation 4 and Xbox One, you will think there will be a surplus port that lined up to be launched on the object.
There are encouraging numbers at launch, including games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Yakuza 0, and some are announced but still without the release date – such as Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But since the launch there were very few new announcements, with a partner showcase that was very disappointing last month.
There are reports for some time that this is partly because Nintendo refuses to send a modified Devkits 2 switch developer – a modified console needed to make games for the system – but it seems that the problem remains and no one knows why.
The problem should have been very bad that Nintendo has told the developer to give up on the idea of making a switch 2 game and only made an ordinary switch 1 title.
This according to the Digital Foundry John Linneman, who said he spoke with several developers while attending Gamescom 2025 last week, who still could not get hardware.
Instead, they seem to have been told that they must ‘only send it to Switch 1 and rely on back compatibility.’

Nintendo should act in this way even with a relatively large developer, with Linneman co-host, Oliver Mackenzie talks about ‘strange exceptions’ and expresses confusion that relatively small publishers like Oink Games can get Devkit for the Chillin Fire Simulator’ by Fire but some Triple-A Studio in Pilin.
This all came a few weeks after journalists and Podcaster Jeff Gertsmann shared the email he received from the alleged developers who claimed Nintendo explicitly wanted several third -party games that might be released this year for Switch 2.
“There are secondary concerns about safety and piracy as well, but I work for famous publishers with good relationships in Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, and we have remained far, have a request for our DEV kit for our partners delayed, etc. 2026, “said Nintendo.
There is no explanation given why Nintendo wants this, and even with Nintendo’s normal standards, it seems that it cannot be explained at all and there is no clear benefit to them.
While there are some debates about the legitimacy of email, insiders who can be relied on by Natetehehate (who have discussed the situation of Devkit Switch 2 in the past) was taken to the Famiboards forum to say that even if the email was wrong, he could strengthen what had been heard by digital casting.
‘Many large Dev studios do not have Devkits,’ he wrote, added that ‘the situation improved but still less than ideal, because Nintendo’s communication continues to be poor with many couples.’
There is also evidence that shows that even the studio that has received Devkits has not had it for a long time. Some of the upcoming Switch 2 ports are deployed in Gamescom and while the Final Fantasy 7 remake runs very well, the Elden Ring port quickly gets bad because of how bad the performance is in handheld mode.
The entire post-launch approach to Nintendo to Switch 2 is strange, with the company prioritizing small releases such as Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors but giving a little or no details about them.
However, things can immediately increase, because it is reported that the other Nintendo Direct aired next month in September; One time when Nintendo traditionally had a more substantial exhibition.
Although reportedly as ‘General Nintendo Direct, we have all been waiting,’ the most likely focus is the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which took place on September 13.
