Nicole Scherzinger revealed she felt ‘devastated’ after being slammed for making her fans wait almost an hour during a recent concert.
The American performer, 47, rose to fame as part of the girl group Pussycat Dolls between 2003 and 2010.
He later served as a judge on several talent shows, including The X Factor UK, Australia’s Got Talent, and The Masked Singer.
In recent years she has also appeared on stage, including playing Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, a role that earned her a Tony and a Laurence Olivier award.
Earlier this month he staged a sold-out solo show at the Royal Albert Hall in London, An Evening With Nicole Scherzinger, which was billed as ‘bringing together hits from the West End and pop music scene with a live band’.
However, when it came time to take the stage, he was 45 minutes late, and the audience was quick to express their disdain online.
Several videos posted on TikTok explain what went wrong – and don’t hold back.
Someone stated: ’50 minutes late. 6 songs and then 30 minute+ intervals. It was scheduled to end at 9.30pm but continued until 10.45pm. Hundreds of people left early. Nicole Scherzinger at the Royal Albert Hall was a disaster.
Others said they were ‘disappointed’, while others slammed the delay as ‘disrespectful’. Some even accused her of being a ‘diva’.
Weeks later, Nicole has now spoken out about the delay and how she felt ‘horrified’ for keeping her fans waiting.
Dismissing speculation that she was ‘twirling her thumbs’ backstage, Nicole said she was running around making sure the show went off without a hitch.
However, he said a timing error meant he didn’t know how late he actually was.
‘It wasn’t until I finished that I discovered people had been sitting there for a long time,’ he told The Sun.
‘I was devastated, and horrified, because I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I would get frustrated too if I was made to sit there for too long’. I think they should be in their seats, around 7:15 p.m., or something, but I think my show will start at 8 p.m.
“I just want to thank the people, thank everyone, because everyone stayed and, at the end, they all stood up and danced with me.”
He added: ‘I would like to thank them for their patience and generosity in being willing to help me and I appreciate their understanding.’
Nicole also revealed that her schedule was so busy leading up to the show, she didn’t even have time to do a full show with her orchestra.
‘I had an orchestra I’d never met before, and I didn’t even get to soundcheck all my songs with them. You’re dealing with putting together the show and I’m doing the meet and greet. I’m very focused on trying to make it the best show I can for the Royal Albert Hall. “I work hard there to make sure it’s the best show for everyone,” he said.
He went on to say that he decided even if he was ’15 minutes late’, ‘the most important thing is that I put on the most memorable and best show I can for these people’.
‘It’s surprising I was 15 or 20 minutes late when I thought my time was 8pm,’ he said of the show which was scheduled to start at 7.30pm.
In the interview, Nicole reflected on her career to date, admitting that she had been ‘disappointed and disappointed’ in the past when people questioned her talent after coming from the ‘pop world’.
However, he believes his ‘talent and hard work will eventually speak for themselves’, adding that now ‘the triumphs and triumphs will be much sweeter’.
