Maidenhead United hosted a two-part Fan Forum at York Road last Monday evening, giving the club’s Board the opportunity to update fans on the club’s future before the new management team answered questions from a large group of supporters.
Chairman Peter Griffin, his wife and fellow director Una Loughrey, CEO Jon Adams and Liberal Democrat councilor for Cox Green Chris Moriarty all addressed the audience as plans to revive the move to Braywick Park were announced. The proposal looks somewhat different to the rejected proposal when reviewed by the Board in December 2023 and the main points are:
- The site is in a new location behind Braywick with its own access and makes use of the existing car park on Vicus Way
- 5,000 capacity, EFL compliant pitch with modern fan and player facilities
- Smaller footprint and height, with reduced visual impact from the Braywick frontage
- Community and training facilities will be built elsewhere in the city
- Modern grass surface to host men’s, women’s and youth matches
- The club’s commitment to improving the environment and biodiversity in Braywick
- Sustainable design with renewable energy, water recycling and energy efficiency
- Ownership of the land remains in trust to protect the asset for future generations
Councilor Moriarty explained that the council would decide in January 2026 on the principle of releasing the land in Braywick. The council confirmed to attendees that if the RBWM approves then the club will, in the first half of 2026, continue to engage and consult with stakeholders and the wider Maidenhead community, drawing up detailed designs and submitting them to the council and planners to take a final decision.
Questions and comments from participants were positive and supportive. More about this proposal can be found at: maidenheadunitedfc.org/our-proposal
The subsequent forum with team management allowed Ryan Peters to introduce the management team while Aaron O’Brien (Academy Manager and First Team Coach under Alan Devonshire) as assistant manager, Liam Vaughan (to reprise his role under Alan Devonshire) as goalkeeper and set-piece coach and newcomer, Ryan Watts. Watts is a former Brentford and Braintree Town playing partner of Ryan Peters who is a nutritionist and gym instructor who previously worked at Hendon FC.
Peters and his team answered a range of questions from the field, with questions regarding recruitment – Peters emphasized that he feels the squad he inherited has plenty of talent for that level – and ambitions for the campaign. Peters said his target is to finish in the top seven and qualify for the play offs.
