Is Wirtz the next big fantasy superstar?

After weeks of speculation, Arne Slot finally got her husband.

In a sensational Swoop, Liverpool have destroyed British transfer records and issued £ 116 million on German international Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

But does the cost of Astronomy Equal Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bring?

Born in Pulheim, Germany, Wirtz made a Bundesliga debut for Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.

Only three weeks later, he scored his first goal at the age of 17 years and 34 days, curved in an attempt by his left foot through Manuel Neuer from Bayern Munich.

The club, who felt its potential, Wirtz was given a more prominent role in 2020/21, taking over from Moussa Diaby in the first XI and quickly strengthened himself as a key member of the squad.

Wirtz tore his anterior ligament in March 2022 and as a result of missing the rest of the campaign, but rose again in style.

Selecting the Bundesliga players this season in 2023/24 and 2024/25, Wirtz collected 21 goals and 23 assists in 63 league performances.

It displays an extraordinary level of consistency that can only be matched, with only Mohamed Salah And Wirtz in the top five League Europe reached a double number for goals and assists in two seasons.

He also proved his greatness in Europe during the same period, gathered 10 more goals and five assists in 20 matches.

Meanwhile, Wirtz has won 31 caps for the German national team, scored seven goals, having previously represented Die Mannschaft at the youth level, including the U17 and U21 teams.

Wirtz: Play Style/Statistics

Wirtz is a multipurpose attacking midfielder who mainly operates as No. 10 left side in 3-4-2-1 under Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen.

He can also play as nine or on the left, as illustrated below.

Right foot but equally comfortable using his left, Wirtz brings threats as a goal scorer and the creator.

Known for his technical skills and ability to operate in a narrow space, Germany has the highest turnover of each player in the Bundesliga in 2024/25, so he must enter smoothly into the high energy system slot.

Statistics underlying Wirtz provide further encouragement.

The 22 -year -old player created an opportunity every 41 minutes in the league last season, a faster level than Liverpool players except wrong.

Wirtz is also a threat of original destination, registering shots every 30.2 minutes in 2024/25.

Some open game shots (only the UEFA Champions League) are recognized as imperfect from the FPL perspective (see below), but you will think it will increase the game for a better team.

Although not a prominent skill, Wirtz also took several angles and free kicks for Leverkusen last season. Which said, the others excel in the order of power, so it seems very likely to contribute their goals especially to come from open games.

Where Wirtz can match Liverpool

Given his ability, Wirtz will play an important role in the first XI slot.

He can play on the left three in front of Liverpool, floating centrally with the left back (who enters Milos will come) offers width. Imagine Philippe Coutinho in the last moon time with the club.

He can also play as a nine fake, similar to how Roberto Firmino was deployed under Jurgen Klopp.

Role No 10 may seem the most likely, however, shifted Dominic Deeper in midfield or indeed came out of Starting XI.

Last thought

Wirtz can play an important role in our 2025/26 FPL season, with the potential to be the top choice.

Many will depend on exactly where the slot intends to use Germany, with Wirtz flexibility that offers a number of options to the Reds boss. Only when he climbed into the field in pre-season, do we tend to get ideas about the intention of his manager.

If Wirtz enters around £ 8.5 million to £ 9.0 million in FPL, he will bring a serious appeal, given his ability to contribute goals and assists.

The latter is very important, because the arrival of Wirtz must help the slot fill the creative gap left by the exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Extraordinary consistency, plus the task of taking a penalty, means he will remain a Liverpool striker next season, after scoring 344 points to break the record in 2024/25.

But the upcoming campaign can be useful for Wirtz, too, with the potential to double in the Liverpool midfielder when the equipment falls well.

It might not be up to Gameweek 12, although it should be noted that Reds collected eight goals and 12 great opportunities against their 1-3 gameweek (Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal) in matches that match last season.
