A reader compared his childhood dreams about what will be developed by the era of Amiga’s video games with today and his priorities are very different.
There are two things that make me depressed in this week’s news (Game News – there are far more than two in the actual news) and the first is proof that I am old, because the amiga commodore is 40 months old. The other is that the average age of gamers is getting older, so that even most Nintendo players are 30s.
Apparently younger people no longer play video games ‘traditional’, only free mobile games and direct service goods such as Fortnite and Minecraft. Video games do not seem to be attractive to them and as companies, the most obvious Sony, hurried to try and attract them … well, you all see the release schedule in recent years.
This generation has become a disaster, as far as I know, for PlayStation and Xbox, and when we reach the end, I really wonder whether video games like I know and love them will even last longer. It’s enough to say this is not how I imagine things when I play my Amiga as a child.
At that time, when all video game ideas were still new, it was difficult to imagine what would happen, but I would remember talking to a friend about a game where you can do anything and go anywhere. I think we imagine it as all our favorite games combined into one, by driving and flying and so on. A little I know we basically describe GTA.
I am not sure we have more specific ideas outside of that, in addition to graphics will be more realistic and things like Starglider 2 and Frontier: Elite 2 will be extended to the point outside of our imagination. A little I realized at that time that this game would basically die in Amiga and never made again.
Seeing through the list of 20 best GC games there are many other people I will add, such as James Pond 2: Robocod, Turrican, Pinball Fantasies, The Chaos Engine, and Superfrog. But overall it is a good list and there is no choice for me to change the points I will make: Almost all games on the list are English.

This tragedy is that the only two American matches on the list (civilization and monkey island) are also the only two franchises that are still ongoing today. All others disappear or support life (I think dangerous elites still occur on PCs, but they stop renewing them on consoles) and not only they cannot return but there is nothing like them to replace their place.
The only thing that is similar to the elite is a terrible Starfield, which really feels like a bad Amiga game in terms of lack of originality and ambition. And there is nothing else like that for years, so the failure will guarantee it does not happen again.
I don’t have anything against American games, but one of the great things about Amiga is that you get games from all over. There are American imports, Japanese imports (although many arcade conversions are carried out by British developers), and European games. At present European games are absent or cannot be distinguished from America. Do you know that Ubisoft is a Frenchman if someone doesn’t tell you?
Lack of variations in the type of game that is being made, and people who make it, really sad and it will only be worse, because the more costs are cheaper and less budget games are not large in general.
Many games in Amiga are not very good but there is always something strange and unexpected in the corner. I am not even sure you get it with indie games today, which always seems like soulsike or metroidvanias.
The dream of a realistic ultra graph has come true but at a terrible cost so it is not commensurate. All the franchises that I used to like were dead and most of the companies that made it too. The worst of all their imagination and ingenuity is also dead, where today more efforts are put into cosmetics DLC than the actual game.
