After seeing the three sides that were promoted immediately back down in successive seasons, Leeds United, Fan Burnley and Sunderland would feel nervous about early 2025/26.
While all teams finally face each other at home and once, fixture orders do have significance. A series of matches that can be won can cause a positive start, some early momentum and the belief that avoiding degradation can be achieved.
So let’s look at the first six gameweks from the last 10 premiere league campaigns, for the first time to see if there is a correlation between starting well and surviving.
But this is not just about defeating drop. Can we fantasy managers expect the ‘honeymoon period’ from new boys in the early weeks?

The left side of the table looks rather gloomy, right? 10 of the newest 15 have been dropped off. In fact, there is no trio below 2023/24 or 2024/25 which can reach 27 points.
Since 2020/21, we have seen Southampton, Sheffield United, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion waiting for a long time for the first difficult victory to understand.
Middle season (2022/23) is an exception – quite new to offer vague hopes to the latest lots.
The three survived, just like 2017/18, when Fulham ran out of the trap with three wins from seven events. As for Bournemouth, they must face Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool between Gameweeks 2 to 4, Dironta -Ronta at every opportunity. They managed to stay up too late too.

Above: 30 teams that have been promoted since 2015/16, sorted based on the least points in Gameweks 1 to 6
In general, if the team accumulates Eight points in their six initial equipmentThey should be fine. Only Norwich from a decade ago found themselves with the winding.
And failing to get more than six points usually leads to degradation.
However, landing exactly seven can walk – several clubs ended in 40 but Watford only reached 23.
What does this mean for FPL?

The recent release from the 2025/26 schedule has an optimistic Sunderland supporter to reach this eight point. The initial meeting versus West Ham United (H), Burnley (A) and Brentford (H) have the top of our equipment for Gameweeks 1 to 6, even though the black cat is finished 24 points under friends who were promoted at the championship table last season.
But remember this: The newly promoted side hasn’t won a single match in the first six gameweks in the last two seasons. That was even though Southampton was high above the Ticker this time last year. Luton was also ranked well in 2023/24. There are several draws for Leicester and Ipswich early last season, but not a significant point encouragement.
This season was promoted by three clubs: the first six equipment

This will be a difficult opening for Clarets this time, meeting Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Man City by Gameweek 6.
Meanwhile, Leeds started 2020/21 with a 4-3 thriller respectively Anfield who was brave, then won over Fulham. This time, they were medium at our fixture ticker. Starting at home to Everton can bring the initial buzz around the assets of the main attacker.
This new history, however, shows that they are all opposed to it from outside.
The graph below from the athletics may summarize the best widening abyss – and shows that even before Nadir from the last two seasons, the struggle to survive is increasingly difficult:
